So after doing some digging, I found out that for Win 10 you have to be using Driver v2.1.0.26 which was released in 2016. Located the driver on this website:

1) Download driver, save it onto desktop for easy access
2) Start 'Device Manager'
3) Click 'Network Adapters'
4) Right Click 'Qualcomm Atheros AR 8161...'
5) 'Update Driver'
6) Click 'Browse my computer for driver software'
7) Click 'Let me pick from a list...'
8) Click 'Have Disk'
9) Click 'Browse'
10) Locate & Select the files that have been downloaded (if its saved onto your desktop, you should be able to scroll down to see that there's a file called 'netl1c63x64' setup file (I'm running 64bit btw)).
10) Update the driver and mine worked instantly!! Took me few hours of trial and error with various drivers... Hope this helps!
UPDATE 10/2/2017
Scratch that, it worked fine last wk and when I logged in this morning, stopped working all over again. Back to square one....
Just wondering if this hardware is even compatible with windows 10 at this point.
I have a NIC ethernet version qualcomm atheros ar8171/8175 pci-e gigabit ethernet controller. The gigabit ehternet is not seen under device manager or does not show any internet connection. completely it has gone away from window 8.1 64bit. I did check the box under device manager that says SHOW hidden devices. And there was a entry for atheros ethernet NIC but it showed as NOT connected. 'device is not connected please, connect device? This is a internet NIC and attached to the laptop mobo. How can it be disconnected. I have not made any changes , nothing. still weird issue, what can i do to fix this. I am very upseset with the ASUS g750 series. always creating problems for me. I went into BIOS to check for errors. nothing. I restarted laptop. I checked scan for hardware in device manager. nowehere i can find my NIC.
any help is greatly appreciated.
